Simulation Analysis of a Coal Terminal’s Offloading Logistics System
Project overview
A coal miner appointed Ceenex to develop a dynamic simulation model of its coal terminal operation. The detailed model included train arrivals and departures; working stock yard locomotives; shunter and/or indexer operations; and the tippler offloading process. We tested different train compositions; locomotive types and sets used; tippler quantities and configurations; and rail layouts. The model also accounted for various train arrival patterns, train delays and tippler availabilities.
Scope
Dynamic simulation analysis.
Key statistics
Our solution enabled the client to test various design concepts and eliminate those that could not meet the design prerequisite at an early stage. It also assisted in designing the best coal terminal layout and operating method while considering the existing infrastructure and available capital. This is in addition to visualising the process and deriving valuable insight into the logistical process.
